This summer, I was blessed with the opportunity of working with a grade four class as the assistant teacher. Throughout the four glorious weeks, I developed many favourites (this shows how unprofessional I am...). Anyways, this one girl, Lisa, was just so mature for her age. During the field trip days we would sit together on the bus and just fall deep into conversation. I was humoured by and in awe of her innocence and perspective of the world.
Yesterday when I opened my mail box, expecting nothing but bills and flyers, I saw this letter from... Lisa! It was in the cutest writing, addressed to, "Miss Lee." I was so touched by this. Opening the envelope, I saw a beautiful bracelet that she had made wrapped over the letter. The letter was written on 2 peices of computer paper, and the content gave me a glimpse of her beautiful innocence once again. In my heart, my wish for Lisa is that she retains this innocence. She shared with me that her dream is to be a writer. I pray that she follows through with this childhood dream and doesn't let other external factors and influences deter her from reaching this goal. It's kind of funny that I get this protective feeling over the/my students. I just love their simple ways of thinking - how free their minds are from excessive emotions like worry, fear....
but i guess I am just powerless when it comes to them growing up. All I can wish for / pray for is that they are equipped with all the tools to stand up for what they believe...
