I am in this really creative written communications class, where the instructor wants us to swim deeper into our minds/selves to create REAL poetry. This is my cup of tea. :).
The trigger that he gave us last class is to focus on memory, and the beauty of the human mind that allows us to stores snapshots of the living world. He said to focus on a memory that really lingers like a kiss. Quite the romantic analogy? So I have constructed this poem... partly from a memory, and partly romanticized through the powerful arrangement of words and imagery.
This single moment resounds in my mind,
awakening my senses.
In a flash, I am there.
There is no music, but my ears can hear,
the ever-present, rhythmic beat of the night.
I look down and see our feet.
Floating, sweeping across the floor.
I look above and am lost,
lost in awe-struck wonder at the majestic starry host.
I look around and the trees wave,
the leaves glistening in response to the moon.
I look straight ahead into the familiar face,
the familiar contours, gaze and smile.
This is, the face of the one I love.
The sweetness of his whisper allures me,
enchants me, into a world of fantasy.
We're no longer alone.
I feel the presence of many, a symphony of heartbeats.
They cheer and they delight.
For this is, the dance of a lifetime.
